Summer Youth Programs
The Northfield Branch Library helps you keep kids busy this summer with fun programs. To register for the following programs, call the Reference Desk, 847-446-5990.

Saturday, July 12--That Tall Juggler Buy at 2 PM for all ages. An upbeat comedy, juggling, ball spinning, unicycling show with Mike Vondruska and learn juggling basics.

Wednesday, July 16--Game Night - 7:00-7:30 PM for Ages 7 and Up. A fun night of Taboo Jr., Monopoly, Catchaphrase Jr. and more.

Tuesday, August 5--Design Your Own Fairy Tale Character - 10 AM for Agest 3 and Up. Registration required.

2nd Annual "Studio 60093" Video Contest for Students Grades K-12
If you want an exciting summer, the Library is hold a "make your own video" contest for budding directors and actors. Entries are invited in three categories: Animation, Live Action or a Commercial promoting the Library. Videos must not exceed 5 minutes (including credits). Videos entered in the Commercial Category must be between 30-90 seconds in length and include the sentence "We're up when you are: 24-hours a day." All entries are due by 9 PM Tuesday, November 11, 2008 a the Main Library, 768 Oak Street in Winnetka. Review all the rules and start this summer to direct or act in your or your group's own video.

Friday, July 18--Children's Concert at Clarkson Park--10:30-11:15 AM. Dave Rudolph provides original music with sound effects, props and backdrops.

Saturday, Aug. 23--Kids with Dogs Show. Get your family dog shampooed and ready for this great event to be held at Clarkson Park on Saturday, Aug. 23 starting at 10:00 AM. All dogs will be automatically entered into the largest or smallest contest. Participants will also have the choice of entering their dog in two additional categories - best costome, fanciest trick, best looking, best behaved and floppiest ears. Don't miss this fun event and be sure to bring your camera! Call the Park District for more information on entering.

Northfield Farmers Market Open Saturdays through Oct. 18
All the wonderful fresh foods, beautiful flowers, tasty cheeses and other delights of the Farmers Market is back in Northfield on Saturdays from 7:30 AM to Noon through October 18. The Farmers Market is hosted by the Northfield Chamber of Commerce and is held every Saturday rain or shine. Select from locally grown fruits and vegetables (in season), delicious cheeses, baked goods and many other specialty items. Choose from hardy colorful annuals, native perennials, hanging baskets cut flowers, flowering shrubs for your yard, patio or deck. The Farmers Market is a wonderful meeting place to stop and visit with friends and neighbors. It is located across the street from New Trier High School West Campus on Happ Road south of Winnetka Road and offers free parking. The Lions Club provides popcorn and beverages for sale. This year, enjoy the sounds of the 3rd Sunday String Band, a group of Chicago musicians dedicated to the preservation and performance of traditional American music. Also watch for special events such as the Corn Roast in August 23 and HarvestFest on September 27.

North Shore Senior Center Offers a Variety of Programs and Special Events
Northfield Seniors and others will find a wealth of programs and events offered at the North Shore Senior Center located at 161 Northfield Road in Northfield. Some events and classes are free and open to the public, others require fees. Reservations are need for most events. For more information or to make reservations, call 847-784-6030 or visit www.nssc.org.

Some of the classes and events being offered cover subjects that include music, politics, religion, dancing, sewing, history, use of computers and more. Following is a small sampling of some of the upcoming programs:

North Shore Senior Center's Handyman Program Provides a Helping Hand around the House
The NSSC Handyman has the talent and exprience to tackle a variety of household projects and repair jobs. If you are age 60 or older (or disabled and any age) and live in New Trier or Northfield Twp., you can take advantage of this helpful service. A Handyman is available by appointment to work in a single residence for up to 3 hours per appointment. The Handyman does not perform services for which a plumber, electrician or contractor should be hired. The cost of Handyman services per hour is $39 plus the cost of any materials needed. Payment is due at the time of service. Some typical services include: replace light bulbs, re-light gas appliances and pilot lights, switch screens and storm windows, repair damaged electrical cords; free sticking locks, doors and windows; install grab bars, replace cabinet hinges or handles, move furniture and appliances, deliver goods to rummage sales, perform basic yard work, install smoke detectors, install window air conditioners, replace fuses, replace smoke detector batteries, assemble furniture. Children's Summer Program Offered at St. James the Less June 8 - August 17
Children ages 3-8 and 9-13 years of age are invited to attend St. James the Less Episcopal Church, 550 Sunset Ridge Road, Children's Summer Program on Sunday mornings June 8 through August 17 at 9:45 AM. This year's theme is "It's A BIG Secret" and will involve Bible stories, crafts, music and puzzles. The secret theme runs throughout but each session is self-contained.
